Day One!!

Well after posting "Commitment Issues" on my other blog, it was time to take control of what I've been wanting/needing/longing to do!

Brooke and I hit the gym with our Personal Trainer, Mike. Really nice guy, funny too! The gym is an interesting place, looks like they train boxers there since there is a huge boxing ring in there. Made me want to step up and throw some punches too! It was hot as hell in there when we walked in, I couldn't really get a handle on how hot it was inside, since outside it was 97 degrees out, PLUS the humidity, shew..It was HOT!

We got there about 5pm so it was just us for training and some other guys in the ring. Mike starts out by stretching you out, You lay on the bench and he first stretches out your legs one at a time, I gotta admit I was a little uncomfortable here. Having my leg straight up in the air and someone pressing on it close to my body doesn't feel so good. It was over pretty quick though, and then my leg was in a few other positions that felt MUCH better. Then he stretches out your arms in a similar way and shakes them to loosen them up.

At this point, I am ready for this! I have a goal set (July 15th) and I want to continuously work out until that date and do all I can to get to where I want to be. We started with a step-up routine with weights 30 reps on each leg, then lifting the weights in between for 30 reps. I was feeling some tension (it’s the first time I've worked out in what feels like, uh forever)

To the ball! We were to do squats with weights in our hands. Once you squat you use the ball to bounce your bum back up. Reps of 15, once you did that first one, then you are to do a rep of 15 where on your way back up from your bounce you lift the weights up. Let me tell you the first few times my bum hit the ball I was scared! It’s like when you're a kid and you trust someone to catch you when you lean back. Same feeling now as an adult in a gum with weights and a ball! Feeling alright at this point. It’s now hot as hell in the gym and we're not even close to done! Ahh!

Now we have to do lunges, which I thought we JUST worked out those muscles. This time across the gym with smaller weights in our hands, oh and at the beginning and end of them we have to lift the weights up 30 times. Thank god I have long legs; I can sprint-lunge to the end of the other side, and back again. I get back to the starting point after going down and back up, I'm feeling good, feeling the "good burn" which might I say nothing should feel good as it burns, something is just wrong with that saying. I go to get water, and Brooke kindly reminds me that we have to do another set. I think I blocked out that part!

By this time I've gone through almost all of my ice water I brought with me, I am so hot and sweaty but I am getting the work out I NEED. My arms are now feeling a bit rubbery.

Next: Abs. Although he tricked me and said "Stretching" I was ready for him to pull on my arms and legs and I would lay there. Yea, Not so much! The Sit-ups went better than I thought, I LOATHE sit ups! He made them pretty easy, I had one leg stretched and one bent that he held. I had to touch his shoulder with my arms. I did a rep of 10. It was enough for me! We did another variation of sit ups where both knees where bent and I had to reach straight up and tough his hands, I am good till I hit about 8 then I start to feel like I've lost the strength, but it'll get better. From there he stands over my head, I grab his ankles (Yes, I do know how this sounds) I bring my feet up to his chest level, he grabs them and pushes them down, I have to hold them off the bench and pull them back up to him. Now is when I feel sick. I feel dizzy, over heated and like I am going to pass out, possibly throw up. I know you get like this when you push yourself too hard. Oh and eating a yogurt all day didn't make matters any better. I take a break, Mike tells me to walk around, and I can't its way too hot. Brooke goes hard on the abs and I just sit in a time out lol.

I'm hot, sweaty and now understanding why I quit every time I start working out, it’s hard!! Haha!

Arms! Here we go; we do a series of pushing weights up, to the side, and in front of us. I got all the way through till about the last set and felt like I had jelly for arms and had to give it a rest. I'm feeling very over heated. I might add in that I have tried to negotiate my way through this work out when he's said a certain rep to do, I've tried to negotiate it lower, I am a negotiator what can I say? Plus Brooke laughs at it, and really it’s my first time hitting the gym and this isn't exactly an "easy" work out.

Squats again: Brooke does hers, she is a rock star at this, and likes to remind me how much younger I am and she can do this, and also she throws in there "July 15th" I am about to the point of enough. My turn for squats, still feeling weird about the lean back feature of this, I get through the reps and it’s time for me to lift the weights in the air, No go. I do 3 and tap out.

Thighs: We put one leg on the bench and hold on to Mike and use our leg on the bench to pull ourselves up. I am a rock star at this, Way to go long legs, He set a 10 set rep, I did 15. Well, did 10 took a min finished the other 5. I felt good about that! Wooo hoo! (Brooke did show me up on sit ups though)

Tine for jumps. Man all I am thinking of is, ugh, why don't they make MORE SUPPORTIVE sports bras? Under Armor has it going on, but I don't think I'm going to be able to do this. Oh and, we're almost done and guess who feels sick again? Yup, me again, over heated, seeing blurry, I sit that one out again.

Time to be stretched out. Ahhhhh the first leg stretch hurts just as before. Funny Man Mike says "You're very flexible, someone will thank me for that" I cracked up!

Brooke gets stretched out, we tell Mike we'll see him tomorrow, Even though I am hesitant to commit to it, I agree.

Drop Brooke off at home, and I drive home myself, get out of the car, I feel the burn. Little bit tender walking around the house; I can definitely feel that I've worked some good muscles tonight! I am trying to change my eating habits too to aid me in getting the best results. Tonight for dinner I had steamed small Ruskin potatoes, squash and green beans with shrimp. I feel good about that!! We agreed to hit it hard tomorrow and take Wednesday off for Cinco De Mayo.

Thanks for the motivation Brookie <3
